It's possible for incoming messages to be missed when reading them from the sidebar preview.

What I've observed is a LINE sidebar showing a particular message, but Matrix only having bridged the message that appeared before that one. Viewing the chat in Matrix synced the missing message, at least.

It's also possible for messages to be missed entirely, without a sync able to get it later. There might be a different reason behind that, though.
